With the help of the writings of early explorers, and stories by imaginary Mi'kmaq characters, this book tells about the Native Canadians in the Maritime region of Canada.

It describes how the Mi'kmaq lived together long ago in the land that they called Mi'kma'kik, and how their way of life was transformed by the coming of the first Europeans.
